Clifton NC

Clifton NC is both a township and a small unincorporated community in Ashe County. Clifton Township includes the small mountain communities of Fig, Comet, Warrensville, and Clifton. The township’s population is a little over a thousand and it spans over about 29 square miles of central Ashe County. Warrensville lies at the intersection of Highway 88 and Highway 184. Fig and Creston can be found by following the route along Highway 88. Comet is a bit more obscure, and on some maps it cannot even be seen. Green Cove Mountain lies to the west of the township and Phoenix Mountain lies to the east. Several creeks run along Highway 88, from the New River and include ones such as Buffalo Creek, that are known for their hatchery supported fishing.

The community Clifton rests at an elevation of 2,769 feet. It’s comprised of friendly neighbors, families and hard working people. Most residents are employed in fields like construction, health care, electrical, computer related businesses, education, and agriculture or forestry (there are a lot of tree farms in Ashe County).
